The City of Huntington is located in the southwestern part of West Virginia on the Ohio River and is the Cabell County seat. The population is approximately 50,000. Currently the economy is anchored by health care, education and service industries.
The top employers in the community are Marshall University and two regional medical centers – St. Mary's Medical Center and Cabell-Huntington Hospital. Each hospital serves as a regional trauma center and Cabell-Huntington Hospital is the home of the Marshall University School of Medicine.
Huntington borders Ohio and Kentucky and is the service hub for the tri-state area. These factors cause the daytime population to increase by approximately 20,000 people. The City is under a strong mayor form of government that has eleven City Council members, nine elected to represent districts, and two that serve at-large.
